SKOOTA, Encountering Indie Games for the First Time
In the spring of 2023, we launched “SKOOTA,” aiming to create a place where creators and fans can connect, grow new content together, and enjoy the experience. Over the past two years, we’ve been preparing to ensure SKOOTA evolves in line with its original vision and progresses to the next stage through various challenges.
One of the biggest surprises we encountered during this journey was the vibrant culture within the indie game scene, which values interaction with fans and collaboratively creating excitement.

Indie Game Culture Grown Together with Fans
It has been just over a year since we began creating indie games. Throughout this time, rather than just isolating ourselves to work, we participated in major indie game events such as the TIGS (TOKYO INDIE GAMES SUMMIT) in March 2024, BitSummit in July, and Tokyo Game Show in September. Even if not exhibiting, we also visited many other events. (Our staff also attended the Burning Beaver 2024 indie game event in Korea in November!)

By participating in these events multiple times, we were astonished and moved by the culture unique to indie games, where creators can face fans directly.
For example, there are people who, without any verbal explanation, imagined the world and concept just by looking at the released key art and came rushing up to us at events.
There were also attendees who asked, “I love this world, so isn’t there a playable demo?” seeking to experience the unfinished work.
Looking around at the participants, many are sharing progress from the incomplete stage and gathering feedback. While it may be a bit premature to call these individuals “fans,” we can feel the warmth of those waiting for the completion of our work right in front of us, and we feel supported. This continuous interaction has transformed game development into a special experience.
Since games are inherently interactive, perhaps this culture of exchange works even more strongly than in static expressive genres like manga and anime. Generally, it is normal for manga, animation, and novels to be released only after they are “completed”, and showing progress to others is not very common. The same goes for major titles in the gaming industry. However, indie games seem to be different.
When we encountered this culture unique to indie games, we became convinced: “Everything we need for creating an original project is here!”
↑ “Yami Yuri Girls’ Academy” will continue to participate in events, emphasizing communication with those interested!
The Future of SKOOTA Created with Fans
This experience was something I vaguely anticipated, but the realization hit me only after we started creating indie games ourselves and exhibiting at events. This experience has brought our foundational principle of SKOOTA—a space where creators, producers, and fans connect and grow works together—into a clear, concrete form.
We want SKOOTA to be a place where interactions between fans, creators, and producers occur on a daily basis.
By oscillating between online and real events, we will disseminate the genuine voices of creators through SKOOTA, share the progress of productions, and relay fan feedback to producers. By unveiling the process of creating new works, creators, producers, and fans will weave stories together in a unified entity.
We aspire to create a “space for creators and fans to enjoy together” at SKOOTA.

SKOOTA’s Next Challenge is Together with You
SKOOTA is still a very small entity, but we have gained numerous encounters and learnings over the past year.
We will continue to pursue new challenges centered around indie games together with our fans.
The ideals we’ve set have begun to take shape through our encounters with indie games. The year 2025 will be a year to realize these ideals on the next stage.
We invite you to join us on SKOOTA’s journey!
It would mean the world to us if we could create a special story together with you.
